Tomolla Llama Farm

About Us

Below is a brief summary of the history at Tomolla Farm. We hope that it gives you a better idea of who we are and where we've been.
Don and Liz Linkem

We moved to Tomolla Farm in 1983 and purchased our first Llama in 1984. Having very little experience with any large animals let alone Llamas was a little frightening at first, but we soon learned how easy it was to care for them. There were still those times when we'd camp out to watch over an expecting female. But the Llamas would wait until we had our backs turned every time to have their babies as if to tell us "Don't worry, we've been doing this for a long time without you."

Up till 1986 we had just a few Llamas but were truly enjoying the ones we had and the new friends we were making in the Llama community. One of these new friends was Andy Tillman. It was through Andy that we put ourselves on the "Llama Map".andes1.jpg (29493 bytes) That year we bought from Andy 12 of the finest females he had ever had from the "Andes Llama Collection" These included unique bloodlines domestically as well as from South America and England. It was through this connection that we acquired our Trademark Herdsire Federico. It would be hard to imagine what Tomolla would be without this Grand Male. To this day he continues to produce Award Winning offspring. His latest Success is Tomolla's Tacoma who has taken the show arena by storm. This brings me to some of the great partnerships we have enjoyed over the years.

In our first years we teamed up with Sue Torrey who had a gifted eye and brought us to the Andes Llama Collection and Federico.feddo1a.JPG (11098 bytes)Sue also did a great job of advertising for the farm and kept a keen eye out for other llamas to join our herd. We later teamed up with Dick Patterson on an unknown Bolivian male named Bolero. In 1989 we got together with Jay and Tammy Call of Porter Springs Llamas and sold them half interest in Tomolla's Prospector, a Federico son out of our farm's matriarch Periwinkle of the Catskill line. Our biggest partnership was with Mike and Stella Lee of Storm King Llamas. With them we created a group of animals called "The Private Collection". This can truly be debated as one of the single greatest collections of llamas ever put together. Sadly, the real potential of this group would never be known as the passing of our friend Mike led to the dispersal of this fine herd. In 1996 we began looking for a new male llama to complement our herd's South American bloodlines. We found a few other friends who were also looking for a male of these qualifications, so a new partnership was formed with Gary Bodine of Mt. View Farms, Ron Carr of Camp Carr Llamas, Mike Harbor  and ourselves. After some looking around we came upon a full Chilean male from the Temuco project named Osito de Temuco. We've now seen several years of production from Osito and there are no questions with this one. He's a keeper! Another move we made was hooking up With Hank Kaufman of Timberwinds Llamas a few years back. Again it was our own offspring Tomolla's Tacoma out of Federico and Tomolla's Justina (Chilean) who we sold half interest in. Since then Hank has been busy showing Tacoma all over the country winning wherever he goes. The last move we made was when Mark Brandt asked us if we wanted to breed a few of our Llamas to one of his Kantu sons. We are currently breeding Doc Holliday to some of our select females and impatiently waiting for the first offspring to hit the ground! This sire is also for sale. Please contact us if you are interested.

Over the years Don has been involved with Llamas in one way or another. He's brought them to church youth groups, sat on different committees in the ILA, but most dontruck1.JPG (10899 bytes)noticeably as "Big Dog" helping out at the Celebrity Llama events.lizandllama1.JPG (15533 bytes) Liz has also been by his side and is known to sneak a few kisses from the Llamas from time to time (don't tell Don). They have also been blessed with 3 fine kids. The oldest Jason is married to Kris, his high school sweetheart. They now live next door and have a son and daughter of their own! Their second, Jenny is  married to Jason's best friend Pete who also have a boy and one more on the way! The youngest, Josh towers above us all and enjoying fishing and about anything else in the outdoors!

I suppose I should say something about myself, your humble dickandbaby1.JPG (14492 bytes)webmaster and Manager of Tomolla Farm for over 17 years. My Name is Dick Crowe and I never thought of myself as a farmer. I always thought I would live in the city somewhere. But after I graduated from College, Don (who I had known most of my life) asked me If I wanted to run his farm. I figured why not, It wouldn't be forever, I still had Law School. Well I fell in love with the farm and am still here today. Now I'm married and have a 5 year old girl and a 7 year old boy who love the farm and the Llamas as much as I do, AND twin 2 yr old boys ready to help....or....ah....get into trouble but who could ask for anything more.
